Katy Perry Stardom
What is the buzz about this young American singer, songwriter and musician made famous for her song “I Kissed A Girl (and I Liked It)?” The voice behind the chart-topping song is Katheryn Elizabeth Hudson, more popularly known as Katy Perry. She was born on October 25, 1984 in Santa Barbara, California. Ironically, she is a child who grew in a Christian home with pastor parents to boot. The only music exposure she received was gospel music. For most of her childhood, from age 9 to 17, she sang gleefully in the church choir.
Katy Perry pursued a career in music when she was in first year high school. In fact, in 2001, she released a self-titled solo album. At that time, she carried the name Kay Hudson. The record label of her album closed that year.
It was in the year 2007 when Katy Perry worked with Capitol Music Group and used the stage name that she is popularly known as today. She released her very first single in the internet entitled “Ur So Gay” in November of that year. Although that song did not hit the charts, it got Katy the attention she needed. It was her second song that catapulted her to stardom. “I Kissed a Girl” was released in 2008 and topped all international charts.
Aside from her songs, Katy is most noticeable for her unconventional style with fancy dresses that come in a variety of vintage colors and adornments. Her dresses seem to represent different eras. Katy uses many fruit-shaped accessories and admits to watermelon as her favorite fruit. Her hit single “I Kissed a Girl” is part of her first mainstream album entitled “One of the Boys.” In August 2010, Katy Perry will launch her next album to be titled “Teenage Dream.”
