Born in a Christian home and raised by pastor parents, Katy Perry was not allowed to listen to other kinds of music except gospel. She sang for church from age 9 to 17 years old. She began to pursue a career in music when she earned a GED in her freshman year. In 2001, Katy Perry released a gospel album that was self-titled, Katy Hudson. Not long after, the record label that helped her with that album went bankrupt and closed. Succeeding albums, which she completed, were also not released. It was only in 2007 when Capitol Music Group worked with her to release her first but controversial single, “Ur So Gay.” In 2008, “I Kissed a Girl” was officially released and that brought her from rags to riches.
Aside from music, Katy Perry has received much attention from famous designers. She has an unconventional but distinct style, with dresses that are mostly era-inspired and vintage.
